Maria Ritchie was an Interior Designer living in Portland, Oregon and looking forward to turning 31 over the summer – when she got the shocking news that stopped her world from turning. The Northeast Ohio native learned she was living with Invasive Stage 3 Breast Cancer. To make matters worse – within just weeks of receiving her diagnosis – Maria was laid off from her job, ensuring she would also lose her insurance.
The Birth of Miracles for Maria
When we first learned about Maria’s cancer, we felt helpless. Several family friends, who have known Maria her whole life, came together to brainstorm ideas of how we could ease the financial burden, so that Maria and her family could focus on her fight and recovery. In that need, Miracles for Maria was born.
We quickly planed and organized fund-raising activities, and as we were promoting these fund raisers, we discovered the reality that almost everyone we encountered had a family member or loved one who had been impacted by some variety of cancer. Clearly, we were not alone, but until our 31-year-old Maria was a victim, it had never been so real.
The overwhelming response from our community, family and friends have been a true blessing for Miracles for Maria. At the urging of Maria and her family, we have expanded our focus beyond Maria and are looking at ways to pay forward our blessings to others impacted by cancer.
Miracles for Maria’s goal is to be a resource for cancer patients by providing Financial Assistance.
In following the teachings of St Francis of Assisi “It is in giving, that we receive”, we aspire to:
Find opportunities where our help can make an impact.
Pay forward the Love and Support, we have received
Ease financial stress, when it is needed the most
Miracles for Maria will continue to help patients living with cancer, as well as their families, raising funds and donations to accomplish our mission.
We know YOU want to help, and give cancer patients a much needed boost as they battle to get back on their feet.
